TOPIK photo requirements for registration in Korea

Domestic TOPIK registration: 35 × 45 mm, JPG or JPEG, no more than 200 KB, white background, front-facing and taken within the last six months.

The domestic registration rule

Korea’s government enquiry service publishes the TOPIK programme answer for registration photos. It says the photo follows the Ministry of Justice foreigner-registration photo standard and adds the online file rule: JPG/JPEG only and up to 200 KB. It does not publish a domestic minimum file size or a domestic pixel maximum.

• Physical size: 35 × 45 mm.
• Head length: 25–35 mm from crown to chin.
• File: JPG or JPEG, up to 200 KB.
• Photo: colour, front-facing, white background, taken within six months.
• Use: admission ticket and score certificate.

What the Ministry of Justice standard adds

The upstream standard requires a natural closed-mouth expression, clear focus and no shadow on the face. Tinted lenses, frames covering the pupils, red-eye, coloured contacts, hats and scarves are not accepted. Both ears should be visible. Images altered with Photoshop or similar software are not acceptable.

Do not mix domestic and overseas rules

Overseas TOPIK organisers can publish their own size or upload limits. Values such as 3 × 4 cm or a 354 × 472 pixel maximum belong to particular overseas routes; they are not part of the Korean domestic rule above. Check the host institution when you are not registering through the domestic system.
